Title: Heated Issue
Design an awareness campaign to educate the public on the issue of global warming.
The impact of climate change is a heated issue, sparking controversy in political and scientific arenas. Most agree, however, that humans are largely responsible for generating the conditions that are driving the problem.
This competition asks participants to create an educational campaign to raise public awareness of the problem of global warming and the contribution of our daily lifestyle and activities to this phenomenon. The aim of the campaign is to provoke people to think about the issue and how their individual consumer choices and energy consumption play into the equation.
Your entry may address the broader topic of global warming or highlight a specific factor ? but any facts contained in your entry must come from a verifiable source (you must quote the sources of your information in your project description).
The campaign may employ any media (print, billboard, clothing, film, animation, music etc) or a combination of formats.
Judging Criteria In addition to the regular judging criteria outlined in About Design It, entries to this competition will be judged on the strength and clarity of the message contained in the design and how effectively the campaign on the whole communicates this message.

Title: Child's Play
Design an object that encourages children to cultivate their own imagination and creativity
Children's toys are very often prescriptive in their function, designed with a certain task or role-play in mind. This competition asks for an affordable object or a series of objects that a child can play with in which the function is not prescriptive but open to interpretation. The object can be of any scale. The objective of the design should be to encourage exploration and to inspire a child to derive his/her own associations and invent their own interaction or way of playing with the object.
You must specify which age group your design is aimed at and how your scheme takes into account the cognitive development level of that age group. In addition, your scheme should demonstrate environmental responsibility, whether through material selection, production techniques or potential for recycling or reuse once the object has been outgrown.
Judging Criteria In addition to criteria outlined in About Design It, appraisal will be given on how effectively the scheme is tailored to the age group it is designed for.

Title: Shelter Me
Design a temporary emergency shelter for deployment in a natural disaster
In the past two years, widespread catastrophic events have called forth large-scale relief efforts throughout both urban and rural areas of the world. How would you design an emergency relief structure to be used in the relief efforts of a natural disaster, such as a flood, earthquake or hurricane?
ShelterMe challenges designers to present a cost-effective short-term shelter that is affordable, lightweight, strong and easily deployed.
If your design is geared towards a recurrent scenario in a particular region, you must specify the location and scenario and outline how your scheme is tailored towards the situation and conditions.
Judging Criteria: In addition to the criteria outlined in About Design It, judges will take into consideration:
How the design accommodates basic needs and supplies, such as insulation, sanitation and first aid The structure's ability to resist severe environmental conditions Ease of delivery to the disaster zone Ease of construction, dismantling, storage and re-use The potential for mass production and distribution Environmental impact Prizes 1st prize: $5000 2nd prize: $3000 3rd prize: $1500 Audience prize: $500
